Censors investigate websites using Henson photographs

May 29, 2008 – 8:34 pm

The Classification Board is investigating news media websites who published photographs taken by Bill Henson. The case was referred to them by the ACMA, but it’s unknown whether a complaint was made by a member of the public (maybe a revolted PM?) or the ACMA took it upon themselves.

So on one hand you’ve got the police investigating Henson with the chance of CP charges being laid. On the other you have the OFLC investigating news websites for publishing what might be obscene or refused content.

Police raiding art galleries, censors investigating journalists. That’s not a healthy pattern. Maybe bloggers who published the images are next?

Cheers to Bob for the tip off. Check out Bob’s LJ for his thoughts on the Henson affair.
