7:30 Report tackles filtering again this week

November 23, 2008 – 9:58 pm

I’m told by some of my readers that the 7:30 Report is taking a look at the filtering debacle once again this week. (First thought to be Monday 24 November 2008 on ABC1, but new info suggests it might be the Thursday night show).

Let’s hope it’s a better report than the one Kerry O’Brien and co churned out last time. That one still gives me shivers.

Update: 24/11/08 11:54PM: Senator Conroy has not been interviewed for this report. Date also updated.

Update 24/11/08 9PM: You can now watch the report below.

  2. This was a nice well rounded report, giving equal voice to both parties. I think this is the first major media to really cover this. Hopefully other current affairs programs follow suite.

Let the people of Australia decide; I think people will overwhelmingly be against it.

  3. I am getting rather tired of the argument that “if it even saves one child, isn’t it worth it?”. In this post, I ask the question: “What if it doesn’t? What if it makes the problem worse?”

  4. This can also be viewed directly from the ABC video website

It’s moved down the list as news comes in. It’s on the second page at the moment.

  5. I have to agree with Jon. The government has proposed this as a solution to child pornography, this is not a preventative method. While the blocking of some images may occur there is no way that this system would lead to increased arrests and a decrease of the number of children abused within this system?

Think of the children you say? Clearly the ALP is thinking of the best way to allow the abuse of children to continue while still being seen as ‘proactive’.

I would further put it to Hon Stephen Conroy that he perhaps takes liberties with minors and captures it. As he has proposed that all those against his plan do.
