I’m playing catch up on bans this week and the first worth noting is Sexy Poker by WiiWare getting hit with an RC by the Australian Classification Board. Why? Nudity is an incentive or reward to game play. Sort of the point, eh.
“In the Board’s view Sexy Poker offers depictions of nudity as an incentive or reward to interactive game play. In the Board’s view, the general rule in the Guidelines for the Classification of Films and Computer Games prohibiting depictions of nudity as an incentive or reward, applies to the game play described above, as the player is shown increasingly detailed amounts of nudity following successful game-play,” the statement said.
“In the view of the Board, the impact of the game exceeds strong as except in material restricted to adults, nudity and sexual activity must not be related to incentives or rewards. As such the game cannot be accommodated in a MA15+ classification.”

One more reason we need an R18+ rating for games.
Looks like private imports will be the go.
Are Wii games region locked?
Then there’s always the internet http://tinyurl.com/kvkco9

This is ridiculous. The censors had no problem with giving Playboy: The Mansion a MA15+ rating, even though the game features a lot of nudity.

Yes, they are. However, you could put a mod chip in it, allowing it to play both PAL and NTSC games.

WiiWare’s not distributed on disc though, that stuff’s sold online through the Wii Shop.
And softmodding the Wii is both possible and AFAIK legal in Australia.

A mod chip will allow users to play copied games, but not games from other regions.
Wii users will need Freeloader or GeckoOS to run games from other regions. Both Freeloader and GeckoOS run without any modification to the console hardware (though they may require changes to the firmware).
However, none of this applies to WiiShop downloads as far as I know, and I’m not sure if there’s a way around region issues when it comes to downloadable content.

Are these people (ACMA) for real?
They’re either stupid, incompetent, or
just plain Wowsers.
Either way, get RID OF ACMA, NOW!
And give us our 18+ rating, NOW!!

This wasn’t ACMA, this was the “professional” Classification Board

Well, I suppose it’s important that video games reflect real life, where sex can be a punishment for failure, but never a reward of success?

Therein lies the problem. I was rewarded with nudity in God of War and Conan. Better that I get my rewards by cutting an enemy’s arms and legs off? Rewarded with headshots and bigger guns…. or better yet, lets pick up some nudity at the local petrol station.
Ridiculous.

The game “sexy poker” has no nudity and is still only rated for 17 and older and if your so worry about it put a block of the wii shop channel. or better yet watch your dam kids and quit bitching online !
