I have often wondered if Australians are aware that after Don Chipp ( the inaugural leader of the Australian Democrats ) managed to abolish censorship, child pornography was legally available in Australian newsagents and adult book shops in the 1970's. I don't know if it's relevant, but anybody I've told this too simply doesn't believe it. Speaking about the state of censorship before this Don Chipp being interviewed by Andrew Denton said 'DON CHIPP: You didn't know what was banned and what wasn't. Intolerable.' ANDREW DENTON: Were there some stupid bannings? Were these all sensual books, or… DON CHIPP: 'Noddy' was banned once. ANDREW DENTON: 'Noddy'. DON CHIPP: Enid Blyton, because there is a place on page 84 which says "And Noddy walked down a country lane and felt a little queer." ANDREW DENTON: And that was banned in this country?
