im a year 11 student at school and some of the stuff that goes on here is way worse then any video game. Example, when i was 10 i went to a friends place who basicly showed me a porno, and i’v turned out fine, i remember in year 7 kids were goin ariund with porno on their phone! if you think that covering your kids in bubble wrap and never letting them take any risks is protecting them its not, there are a millioon things worse then video games like bad parents, drinking smoking and drugs! The key to protecting your kids is parental education, sit down with your kids when their youg and talk about what they will be seeing in the next few years.

R18 games means they’re for adults not for children, cigarettes and alcohol are also R18, and cannot be sold to children. Wake up Atkinson!

Michael Atkinson is a silly old man.

He does not bother with real facts or evidence to present his case, So name calling is in fact appropriate in the face of such arrogance.

Dictating to every over 18+ gamer in this country while they can go to war and die for real they can’t play and adult video game. The man is a disgrace.

Is it not the right of all adults to have freedom of choice? can an adult not choose what they want to participate in? im not sure but i think i remember something in school about human rights… wasnt that something we fought for? something we “apparently” liberated oppressive countries from? if we cant, as adults decide to purchase a game does this not condradict these freedoms they claim to carry above all else…

GAMES ARE MADE AND SOLD FOR PASSTIME ENJOYMENT, THEY ARE NOT A LIFESTYLE AND PEOPLE DO NOT BECOME THAT DISSATACHED FROM REAILTY AND GO ON RAMPAGES FROM THE CONTENT.

Lets face it all these “stories” about children having breakdowns and blaming it on video games are rediculus. parents need to be parents. take responsiblity for your childrens actions and disaplin them. CHILDREN LEARN FROM THE WAY YOU RAISE THEM.

R18 means restricted to an audience of age (18+) children wont be exposed to this material if we have a rating we can enforce and parents get off their ass’s and actually take time to find out what their children likes, or look at the box of a game the child tells them they want for christmas.

Guess I’ll have to keep importing my games from overseas stores. This damages the dollar as I am transferring more funds to overseas dollars, pays tax to US businesses and fails to give profits to Australian businesses that employ Australians.

Someone really needs to point out to this guy that an R18+ rated game would have the same effect on a person as any other R18+ rated material. They changed the rating system a while back so that ratings for movies and video games follow the same standard.

Why then is he not opposed to R18+ rated movies?
